How to read the results

  • A neck that retains well may still overstretch or damage the ring during installation.

  • Avoid sharp edges at the neck and flanks.
  • Very hard or large-section rings may require a different installation method.
  • Tooling and inspection capability should be confirmed before releasing the groove.

Why use a dovetail O-ring groove?

It mechanically retains the O-ring when a cover is inverted, moved or repeatedly serviced before the mating part is assembled.

Can the neck opening be made as small as possible?

No. More retention also increases installation stretch and damage risk. The opening must balance retention, assembly and tolerance.
