Overview

Polyacrylate is built for hot mineral oil. It outperforms nitrile in high-temperature engine and transmission oil and resists ozone well, but it has poor low-temperature flexibility and is hydrolysed by water and steam, which restricts it to dry, oil-contact automotive duty.

Strengths

  • • Excellent resistance to hot mineral and transmission oil
  • • Better high-temperature oil ageing than NBR
  • • Good ozone and weather resistance
  • • Suited to automatic transmission fluid

Limitations

  • • Poor low-temperature flexibility (about −20 °C)
  • • Hydrolysed by water and steam
  • • Poor with acids, bases and alcohols
  • • Not suitable for glycol brake fluid
