Overview
Polyacrylate is built for hot mineral oil. It outperforms nitrile in high-temperature engine and transmission oil and resists ozone well, but it has poor low-temperature flexibility and is hydrolysed by water and steam, which restricts it to dry, oil-contact automotive duty.
Strengths
- • Excellent resistance to hot mineral and transmission oil
- • Better high-temperature oil ageing than NBR
- • Good ozone and weather resistance
- • Suited to automatic transmission fluid
Limitations
- • Poor low-temperature flexibility (about −20 °C)
- • Hydrolysed by water and steam
- • Poor with acids, bases and alcohols
- • Not suitable for glycol brake fluid
