Overview
Chloroprene, widely known as Neoprene, is a balanced general-purpose elastomer with moderate oil resistance and notably better ozone and weather resistance than nitrile. It is the traditional choice for refrigeration seals, particularly with ammonia and older refrigerants.
Strengths
- • Good ozone, weather and ageing resistance
- • Compatible with ammonia and many refrigerants
- • Moderate resistance to mineral oil
- • Good mechanical properties and flame resistance
Limitations
- • Oil resistance below NBR
- • Limited high-temperature capability
- • Poor with aromatic and oxygenated fuels
- • Not suitable for phosphate-ester fluids
