Overview

Chloroprene, widely known as Neoprene, is a balanced general-purpose elastomer with moderate oil resistance and notably better ozone and weather resistance than nitrile. It is the traditional choice for refrigeration seals, particularly with ammonia and older refrigerants.

Strengths

  • • Good ozone, weather and ageing resistance
  • • Compatible with ammonia and many refrigerants
  • • Moderate resistance to mineral oil
  • • Good mechanical properties and flame resistance

Limitations

  • • Oil resistance below NBR
  • • Limited high-temperature capability
  • • Poor with aromatic and oxygenated fuels
  • • Not suitable for phosphate-ester fluids
