Overview

HNBR is nitrile with the polymer backbone hydrogenated, which raises heat, ozone and ageing resistance well above standard NBR while keeping nitrile's oil and fuel resistance. It also offers high mechanical strength, making it common in automotive air-conditioning and oilfield service.

Strengths

  • • Continuous service to +150 °C, far above standard NBR
  • • Retains nitrile's mineral oil and fuel resistance
  • • High tensile strength and abrasion resistance
  • • Good ozone, weather and ageing resistance

Limitations

  • • Higher cost than standard NBR
  • • Attacked by ketones, esters and chlorinated hydrocarbons
  • • Not suitable for glycol brake fluid
  • • Limited resistance to strong acids
